A broken septic tank pump caused a floor drain in the laundry room to back up, leading to Category 3 water intrusion into the laundry and utility areas, including under the sill plate.

Our team, JM CD, responded quickly, using heavy-duty Tyvek protection on site. The source of loss was identified as a failed septic tank pump, causing a backup through the floor drain in the laundry area, with water extending under the sill plate into the utility room. We performed a heavy cleaning of all affected vinyl floors on the slab, sprayed under the sill plate, and thoroughly wiped up all surfaces. Any affected contents were documented and discarded. A pre-mitigation sketch was completed, and a Water Service Agreement (WSA) was signed. Arrangements were made for a down payment. An Axial Fan Dryer (AFD) equipped with an Odor Cleanse filter was strategically placed in the bedroom adjacent to the utility room to address potential odors and aid in drying, as no structural materials were found to be affected. The AFD will run over the weekend to ensure thorough drying. A plumber is scheduled for Monday to repair the pump, and our team will return to retrieve the equipment.
